Some really do consider USC a rival....
It's a lot like in High Schoot in West Jordan. Copper Hills considered us their 'rival'...but we didn't care about them. Our rivalry week was Bingham, who, in turn, didn't care about us and were more focused on Brighton (I believe?)
Everyone wants to rivalry up and put yourself on footing with a better or more acclaimed team.
Utah fans don't think USC is their primary rival, but a not-insignificant portion do list USC as a rival (below BYU, but ahead of USU and Colorado)
