(This part surprised me) BYU took the stance of "we will not impede nor encourage" the addition of utah.
There was some back and forth because regional fit and further destruction of the pac, but it was touch and go.
However, the networks pushed for adding them simply because they brought the "best rivalry possible" to the Big12.
They really have no idea how close they were to being #3 with WSU and OSU.
To be fair, they most likely would have been added to the ACC with Stanford/cal but there was not regional match to even out the numbers that made sense there either, so they were a marginal add there...
