Amari's mom, Amber (BYU women's bball coach), and dad (Trent) spoke at church
today. Good stuff. Lots of fun stories. Here's one from Coach Whiting:

Trent encouraged her to apply for the women's basketball coach position. When she interviewed with Elder Holland, the first thing he asked is why Amari was playing with Oregon. Amber said Amari prayed about it. Elder Holland responded saying, "Have her pray again." The way she shared the story gave the impression she knew Elder Holland was only kidding. But, obviously, Amari did end up switching after her mom got the position. For Amari's official visit, Amber asked what she'd like to do. Amari responded she wanted to play pick-up games with her sisters. So they did, during which a girl was defending the basket and came down on Amari, tearing her ACL. Amari was devastated. When she asked the doctor if she'd ever be the same, the doc said, "No, you'll be stronger." Amber explained how the doctor's words also pertained spiritually and that trials make us stronger.

Amari told me she's still a little shy about going all out, but she is feeling much stronger and gaining confidence. Very sweet girl with a terrific family. Trent had some great stories about his 12 years playing in 🇮🇹 Italy ...but I'll spare you the novel post. Fun sacrament meeting.
