Cut the valve out on each side of the couplers.. That will give you enough space to attach new pipe next to the T, then fit the new valve down a little farther to give yourself some space.

It will cost you a little more (maybe ~$30 for a comparable valve + a few dollars worth of connectors)... but it will save you a TON of headaches.
