The “best” off road half ton is ironically the cheapest. It’s all about wheelbase and 17” or less wheel size. All the
HP, bling, and lockers don’t help when your rig maneuvers like a beached whale.

KCcouger is right, if you want off road prowess, the 1/2 ton isn’t for you, go smaller with midsize or up to 3/4 ton and get a solid front axle at least.

If you MUST have a 1/2 ton, the work truck single cab standard bed will walk circles around a Tremor T-Rex bison Raptor or whatever on most technical terrain. Add lockers front and rear and you are still $20k -$30k cheaper the status trucks.
