I’m not saying the coaches are dumb for not seeing his ceiling. I’m saying that the coaches who did their due diligence on him i.e. the Seattle coaches they were convinced that his HS profile was not even close to his ceiling. It wasn’t about desperation. They saw that he could become a good player at the college level.

BYU either didn’t take the time to do due diligence or they concluded otherwise. Skubal had a huge frame and obviously hadn’t peaked on his strength profile. He was also a gym rat and big competitor. If you got the skill to project players to help the program, that’s desperately needed in a program that struggles to attract top talent.

Allgeier was moved to linebacker based on necessity. To the coach’s credit, they figured out that he belonged back at RB. The coaches deserve a ton of credit for finding and developing Allgeier
