My FIL was a very dangerous driver at 81 so we had to take away his license.
It was a very hard thing. We got a doctor to back us up and told him he should never drive again. He even tested positive for Alzheimer’s and it was still hard. He literally tried to sue the doctor and the state of Utah for taking away his license.
18 months later and the Alzheimer’s has progressed to the point of being in a Memory Care facility.
It was a very, very hard thing for my wife to deal with and he said some things to her that I never thought he would say. Thankfully my wife didn’t take it personally, but taking that license was emotional. But it definitely was the right thing to do.
