I've been battling this. Geico will only give me up to $300K, so I don't qualify for any umbrella policies. Talked with State Farm, they won't either. They claim my kids (16 and 18, no accidents or tickets) are the issue.

If you have assets to protect they should be high. If you don't you could risk

We have a standalone umbrella carrier that shouldn’t have a problem with teens.

The provider Geico uses requires 300/300. It cost me $270/year for $1M umbrella.

We do minimum on autos and house with an umbrella policy to cover excess liability

Yes, that's right. Use State Farm. Whatever we had to do to qualify for umbrella, which we should probably increase.
