I'll bet dollars per player need to be higher in bball, because you're competing
against more than just college programs. In addition to there being many more basketball programs than football (I'll bet there's some big $$ coming into non-football schools like Creighton, Zaga, Villanova, ect.), you have players that could be interested in playing in the G-league, or Europe, or elsewhere overseas. This is especially applicable if someone is shifting entirely from one type of competitive league to another. You'll have players legitimately deliberating their next best option every year, and each one has a different financial profile.

In football, there's only one pathway to the pros. You play in college until you're likely to be drafted. Once that door is open, 90% of the time you move through it, and NIL wasn't going to make much difference anyhow. So, the competitors for your players are greatly reduced compared to bball. You need to be competitive within your college peer group, and that's it.

I'm probably overstating it, and football is the greatest dollar generator in history, but I wouldn't be surprised to see this be pretty close.
