Stockton and Malone were still young enough to make that year their one chance left to do it. Jazz were the 1 seed in the West, and they couldn't get past the second round against the trailblazers. Instead the Spurs swooped in and became the small market team that the Jazz aspired to, except that the Spurs actually did the job and made a dynasty out of it.
