The key innovation is to have the defender that is about to be beaten to peel off to defend the man that is left open by
the help defender. That alone is a huge innovation. That's not how defenses used to handle things when players get beat. Previously, there would be a series of rotations depending on where the ball was and so forth, putting the entire defense in motion. Voigt's innovation cuts down dramatically on the number of rotations. The link below points to a short explanation of the major difference between traditional switching defenses and Voigt's innovation. I'm evangelizing hard on this thread because what Voigt has done is huge. It's not the same old defense that's been played for decades.
