6 The Bare Necessities vs 11 Les Poissons
Can You Feel the Love Tonight - Composed by English musician Elton John with lyrics by Tim Rice for The Lion King (1994). Kristle Edwards (also known as Kristle Murden), Joseph Williams, Sally Dworsky, Nathan Lane, and Ernie Sabella. Rick Astley performs in the singles version with Elton John.
It was planned to be sung only by Timon and Pumbaa, but John disliked the comical nature of the concept as he declared that the song was meant to follow "Disney's tradition of great love songs", and that it could "express the lions' feelings for each other far better than dialogue could". The final result was the song mainly sung by an off-screen voice (Edwards) with short lines from Simba (Williams) and Nala (Dworsky), and the beginning and end parts by Timon (Lane) and Pumbaa (Sabella).
I Won't Say I'm in Love - Written by composer Alan Menken and lyricist David Zippel for Hercules (1997). Performed by American actress and singer Susan Egan in her role as Meg. Is a mid-tempo doo-wop and pop ballad reminiscent of 1950s music that incorporates Motown and R&B influences. Similar in style to songs recorded by American girl groups the Ronettes and the Supremes.
Menken originally composed a "soaring" ballad entitled "I Can't Believe My Heart" for Meg to sing in the film, which he had intended to serve as a solo conveying the heroine falling in love with Hercules. However, Meg's supervising animator Ken Duncan disagreed with Menken's song because he believed the character was "too tough" and "hardened by life" to perform such a soft ballad. The writers agreed that Meg "wasn’t a ballad kind of girl." Menken then based "I Won't Say (I'm in Love)" on songs he wrote for his musical Little Shop of Horrors (1982).
