Yes there is a difference. Many teams have hit a buzzer beater believing they

have won the game, only to have the other team hit a shot with only 2 seconds left.

With Elam's Ending, everyone knows when the game will end. It ends when someone hits that score. No one will believe they hit the game winning shot when they actually didn't.
