what happens if you forgot about freezing it when you apply for a loan or a car?

is it obvious to the institution what needs to happen and they just remind you or what? like I'm wondering if in 2 years from now I totally forget that I did this and I apply for a loan or something... will they say your credit is frozen and its obvious?

You can select to just "thaw" it. In others words, you can select "unfreeze for 3 days". That way you don't have to

I ask whomever is running my credit which bureaus they’re going to run. Then I go and unfreeze it on the bureau’s

It's happened to me before. The bank just calls, says "Please unfreeze your credit and call us back when you're done."
