In the current transfer-happy era, the idea of using all 13 scholarships for really high level players who can step in and light it up at Big 12 level isn't realistic.
It would be nice to use the last few scholarships on young guys who can improve and prepare to be bigger contributors in future seasons. The hope of playing time in future seasons gives them patience to play sparingly in a particular year.
But nowadays so many don't have patience for that. See Toolson for example.
Ther are not enough minutes to go around to have 13 big 12 level ballers on your roster at a time.
So if Stewart wants to come back due to BYU ties or academics, its fine to keep him around for the last scholarship.
