I love the natural grass both for nostalgia as well as the perception that it reduces injuries (although that is a hotly debated topic especially with the latest advancements in turf). But, the benefits seem high including:
- Maintenance. Obviously this is the topic of the OP so don't need to elaborate much
- We practice almost exclusively on field turf. Players are practicing their cuts, footing on a surface they won't use during the games. Seems important.
- The likelihood of important November games on a national stage should only increase in the Big 12. Having a surface that performs well in poorer weather conditions is vital
- Painted endzones and other on-field markings that pop on national TV would be nice
- Possibility for high school playoffs or other uses which aren't allowed today to preserve the field
