Sometimes I love working in a specialized, but kind of lower level job. I think
I've seen people on CB before talk about the pressure to provide for your family, and how if you screw up at your job as the breadwinner, you might not be able to provide. And that can be a large load to carry.

Well, I made a mistake at work, not a huge one (in my opinion). But had a meeting yesterday with my boss and his boss. Unknown the outcome, but I began to worry about my ability to provide. A lot. I'm not sure if my current job will just give me a slap on the wrist, or if I'll be shown the door. So, super worried all day yesterday and most of today.

So I start applying to a lot of places yesterday/last night (I work in insurance, an auto adjuster). My job is specialized, but not bringing home the big bucks. I make enough to pay the mortgage, put food on the table, save for retirement, and go on a little vacation from time to time. It's a good life. Great work life balance.

I already have an offer. I applied yesterday, snuck an interview in about an hour and 20 minutes ago, and just got the offer. And it's a pay bump of 20%. I have to see how much benefits are covered by me and how much the potential new employer covers (current employer pays a LOT of my benefits, and since I don't make bank, me covering a lot of my benefits can eat into that 20% bump a lot).

All this to say, I'm grateful. It was a stressful past 24 hours ish. But I now know I have a place to land if I am shown the door.
