Bernardo — given our lack of size & athleticism that first year — but it's now pretty apparent that all active players on arrival were granted two years at least — before Pope was free to cut them loose.
So it came down to RS transfers Harward & Lowell, & transfer Barcello being the last three filling the schollies — & the two new Frosh signees getting the carpet pulled on them by Pope. (I do believe it was the staff that helped Bernardo land in Hawaii, though.)
The grace period for the active players was probably the reason Kolby Liefson left on such angry terms. Because he had returned from his mish & was working out w the team when Pope arrived. But he wasn't quite enrolled yet. And Pope apparently said, "Uh-uh, sorry kid."
