Rex had 37 receptions for 429yds as the primary TE.
2021: 33 TE receptions (Holker, Rex, Wheat) for 396yds and 4 TDs
Rex led the year with 18 reception for 191yds and 3 TDs.
2022: (Through 3 games) 14 receptions (Holker, Rex) for 148yds and 2 TDs

The point is BYU is not utilizing the TEs like we saw in 2019 and 2020. Rex was a Freshman All-American in 2020 and kind of a blip in 2021. He had 50% less touches which is crazy. I get him being targeted more by defenses but losing half your touches...that isn't a Rex thing but a scheme or QB thing.
It isn't completely out of the realm of possibility that Holker just wants more playing time and to be in an offense that uses TEs more. I'm not giving him a pass on the timing of it nor leaving your teammates, just saying that BYU has not been highlighting the TE in the past few seasons. Grimes clearly used the TEs more.
*Edit, pulled Wake's stats out as parsing his TE vs. FB numbers are not differentiated. Strictly true TE stats.
