Intervention Needed
Yeah, people underrate Washington
I don't think they're necessarily massively ahead of BYU, but I would put them slightly ahead. But BYU (undergrad) is also very good and absolutely should be a selling point

Well done- one point of difference is the academics of the PAC. They are all

You just posted it on Utah's board. There are more of them on CB than any UU

Washington is a far better school than BYU or Baylor

Lots of lists out there.
Taccoug

In US News, it’s UW #59, Baylor 75, BYU 79, UofU #99
AF Cougar
7/3/22 7:24am
Haha no no it’s not. On par with BYU where we align & Baylor is just better
SouthernBlueBlood
7/3/22 6:34am
I’ve never seen byu or Baylor ranked ahead of UW.
Taccoug
7/3/22 6:57am
If that’s the case I know ranks are even more ridiculous than I thought
SouthernBlueBlood
7/3/22 7:03am
Rankings can be dumb but UW is a highly ranked university by any measure.
Taccoug
7/3/22 7:07am
I didn’t say it wasn’t. I said it wasn’t better than BYU or Baylor.& Baylor is

"BYU is clearly better, based on every 'reasonable' ranking (you know it's unreasonable if BYU isn't ahead)"

You’re attributing that quote to me?
SouthernBlueBlood
7/3/22 8:02am
No, I'm saying it's the general attitude we have here towards rankings
krindorr
7/3/22 8:07am
I agree- however if you knew how the rankings you shared were created you’d have

I'm in academia and those around me do think more highly of Washington

Your last sentence is a weird thing to say when the majority of national lists

You are the first person I’ve heard say Baylor is better than Washington.

You can remove the particularly undergrad qualifier.*

...the best BYU grad programs are better than their equivalents at Utah. And the best Utah grad programs are better than
krindorr
7/3/22 10:53am
You would be wrong in thinking that. BYU doesn't have a medical school so it
Dryfire

Ok, just last I checked Utah was ahead in Math, Physics, Chemistry, CompSci, Engineering, Bio, History, English...
krindorr
7/3/22 11:34am
Anecdotally I have to assume BYU language programs are well ahead of the U,
Forzaitalia
7/3/22 11:51am
Oh, I'd certainly assume so. Couldn't find language programs ranked there, but would assume BYU is among best in US
krindorr
7/3/22 11:55am
All of those are tiny grad programs at BYU with no more than a few grad students
Dryfire
7/3/22 11:59am
So your argument is that BYU just doesn't do STEM grad? That's kind of an argument against strong graduate school
krindorr
7/3/22 12:04pm
It's not a focus for BYU. There is limited space at BYU and the focus has been
Dryfire
7/3/22 12:18pm
That's kind of my point - BYU isn't particularly strong as a graduate school option
krindorr
7/3/22 12:30pm
Wrong. The MBA, Law, and MACC are all good grad programs.
Dryfire
7/3/22 12:34pm
Sorry, not saying NO BYU grad programs are good, just that the overall depth isn't there
krindorr
7/3/22 12:58pm
US News Law Schools: BYU #22, UW #36; WSJ B-School: BYU #27, UW #37. Undergrad
Forzaitalia
7/3/22 8:58am
Yeah, once you get into grad things get different. For example ASU has very strong law and business programs
krindorr
7/3/22 11:17am
For sure. My post was a reaction to Taccoug never seeing BYU ranked above UW.
Forzaitalia
7/3/22 11:47am
I was talking overall ranking. As an accounting grad I know byu>UW in accounting
Taccoug
7/3/22 12:00pm
Okay. I can buy overall ranking although I would bet objective measures like ACT
Forzaitalia
7/3/22 3:34pm
Just a quick Google on ACT has Washington ahead (but not by much)
krindorr
7/3/22 3:39pm
Thx. Very comparable. In the same echelon. Surprised UW is slightly higher but
Forzaitalia
7/3/22 4:06pm

krindorr
7/3/22 4:57pm
We're in agreement. I never put UW close to elite state schools like UVa, Cal,

They aren’t ALL great schools. None of the ‘states’ have great academic rankings

7/3/22 10:16am
You can add Oregon and Utah to that list. Not great academically.

You don't want Utah. BYU will dominate the tv market with or without Utah. If Utah stays p12 then 33% of their fans join
