The good news is that we no longer have a set number of days we can take. We do still have to get approval from our supervisor to take PTO, so that adequate coverage can be maintained, but theoretically we can take off all the time we want.
I'm sure they did it because it's a pain for HR to try to track all the different rules regarding PTO... how many hours can be carried over to the next year? Do those hours expire eventually? Is there any pay-back of unused PTO when an employee leaves? Etc. A lot of HR headaches went out the window with this new policy - and the majority of employees are conscientious enough to not abuse it.
