I experienced this just last month. My Dad passed away and I was the main
Speaker at his funeral. It was emotional but just be aware that it is a time to be emotional. People will understand if you need a couple moments to re group. I decided to write my talk out completely so I could be succinct with my thoughts then I added comments as needed off the cuff.
I picked 4 stories from my experience with my dad, told the stories and then described what I learned from each of those stories. The theme for my talk was ‘What I learned from my Dad’
I hate giving talks but the preparation and actually giving the talk was very cathartic and comforting.
