I don't think it's an either/or thing. But a lot of people have built lives

around the assumption that their kids will be taken care of during the day, so they can fill that time with something other than active parenting. It's a reasonable thing to do. So when that gets taken away, it requires re-arranging their lives in ways that can be inconvenient and/or difficult.

Our oldest did year round school until 6th grade. It actually worked really well and allowed us to do vacations on off
