The only reason they realized it was a scam and stopped was because they decided this tech support emergency was more important than an appointment they had with their estate planning attorney, so they called up the attorney's office to cancel the appointment and (luckily) the receptionist asked why and immediately realized that they were getting scammed and told them to stop.
