I wonder the same thing. Even the undisguised 3 man rush was quite different:
1) Not just 3 bull rushers and Tonga us far more agile, used twists and getting skinny the break through A gaps several times. Dawe and El Bakri were monsters and their Viking (sword and shirld) battle moves were not seen all if last year. 2nd and 3rd team subs were nearly as good. I still want to see way more disguising the rushers and numbers in the future. But this 3 man rush was significantly more effective than in the past.

2) Receivers are really catching the ball so much better. But more important, the route running is more precise than I can remember in 11 years. More than that, they downfield block without holding. BYU has many ling gains negated last year by poor WR blocking fails and holds.

3) RBs are running downhill, not dancing. More important they are finding the pasture eith better 180° vision . Ingalls is making huge improvements in their inside running, higher knees, better cuts, no dancing. They are catching the ball out of the backfield and taking hits, getting any positive yardage. Time and again BYU's backs sacrificed the 3-4 yard gain last year because they danced around and got caught for no gain. The plow through the gap the moment it opens. They can still improve.

4) LBs and DBs are keeping their eyes on the QB as long as possible and reacting to them.

5) Oldroyd chased the cobwebs out of his head.

6) Wilson has settled down and is making throws since the 2nd quarter vs Navy.

7) Romney and Milne are beasts, but I expect Pau'u to be next man up vs La Tech because they will over pursue the others. TEs had for 4 catches last night.

8) Click management has been terriffic.
