regards to someone like Simon, I quickly remind myself that we were all saying the same thing about Simon himself. Nobody expected that from him. Most of this board complained about him last year. Shumway was wildly inconsistent that year and would disappear as well. He improved more than I thought he would.
So I stop myself before assuming nobody can fill shoes. And it might not be exact. I mean, those guys were seniors. But some of the guys we have, are also further ahead in their development than guys like Shumway and Simon, so who knows. Romney as a junior could make the kind of jump that it took Simon until his senior year to see. Hill could take a jump that it took Shumway until his junior year to make.
It's like with Pope. Any time someone talks about a current player developing, or an incoming player and how good he was previously, I remember what Pope did with guys like Barcello and Nixon.
A lot of people spend so much time worrying about who is going to replace someone the next year. But that's every team every year. That's just college football. All I care about is that I believe the development will happen. I don't know who, but I'm confident in it happening. Someone is always there to step in when players leave.
