I frequently see cooper's hawks in my neighborhood, and sometimes they land in my trees, and once I even saw one swoop into my yard to pluck a finch off my backyard fence for dinner.
Well, now a pair is building a nest in a tree directly across the street from my house, which I have a direct line of site to from my upstairs office. Here I am, on near-lockdown in the middle of Denver, and two gorgeous raptors are now on near-constant patrol outside my window, making their "ki-ki-ki-ki-ki" calls. Not terribly surprisingly, the songbirds have become noticeably less numerous at my feeders, but that's a trade I'd make any day.
Nature is freaking awesome. (pictures below are not my own, but just to give people an idea of what a cooper's hawk looks like.)
