He was headfirst and stuck in the downward side of the V. The space between the top of the V and the ceiling was something like 12 inches. And his rib cage was hooked and a piece of rock that jutted out. They tried to set up a pulley system to create enough force to lift him up and over the point of the V. The pulley kept breaking out of the soft rock--actually severely injured one of the rescuers--nasty head gash that caused him to need to be rescued.
