I faced a recently graduated BYU closer in rec league while in college
I was geared up for a 90 mph fastball and he struck me out on three straight changes. No way I could hit a MLB pitcher.

How fast? There's a big difference between 90 mph and 100 mph. I've tried to hit
mncougar

lets say 95
johnnycarson
6/5/17 1:13pm
Chances are I wouldn't connect on any of the 3 at 95. 90 is pretty much my

keep in mind a pitching sim is quite a bit different than a human being

Well of course, but I'm assuming from his question that the pitch would be
mncougar

The average speed of an MLB fastball is right around 92.

there's the thing....i don't think 10 pitches is enough to get the scared
johnnycarson
6/5/17 1:32pm
Maybe he could hit my still bat bunted over the plate.

6/5/17 1:14pm
I've swung at balls from pitching machines that threw at MLB speeds before
ayfan

No chance....
Baseball77
6/5/17 1:21pm
exactly. 1 out of 3 think they could make contact. we could line up all 500
johnnycarson
6/5/17 1:23pm
My guess is that outside of former college players, the only CBers that would go
mncougar
6/5/17 1:31pm
Thats not what OP said, he said Fastball straight down the middle every time
ayfan
6/5/17 1:28pm
It wouldn't be that hard to make contact once. You just are sticking the bat out
Baron
6/5/17 1:37pm
but to actually swing....you'd be late, your eyes would be closed...

Maybe Jered Weaver's fastball

Right, especially when Law probably throws 55 on a good day.
mncougar
6/5/17 1:27pm
He should just tell everyone he throws 90% change ups
JohnnyComeLately

I could hit it if I bunted

I'd go yard on all three pitches.

Take a look at some numbers for average MLB player
JohnnyComeLately
6/5/17 1:30pm
A MLB player would hit all 3 if they knew they were going right down the middle
Baron
6/5/17 1:35pm
Sure but noone on here is making 10 million a year to hit baseballs all day.
JohnnyComeLately
6/5/17 1:41pm
so, what was the point of your comparison?
smokymountainrain
6/5/17 1:44pm
Baseball players who see fastballs all day long dont hit 1 out of 3 fastballs they see in a game situation.
JohnnyComeLately
6/5/17 1:49pm
This isn't a game situation, in a game situation you don't know what pitch to
ayfan
6/5/17 2:06pm
Fair enough. I don't care to argue maybe you guys could crush a 95 mph fastball

Maybe back in the day but I doubt it. I was decent vs HS pitchers, never great.

Here's the thing though.. an MLB pitcher is going to be able to put the ball in

Fear, plus the ability to actually see the ball when it's moving that fast,

I totally could. My Freshman year I batted 1000 so I'm pretty sure that

3? No way. 10? Probably make contact/foul off on 10 if it's same speed.
SlippinJimmie
6/5/17 2:34pm
If I get 3 flat fastballs right down the pipe, I might could foul one off.
Hotty-Toddy-Reb
6/5/17 3:18pm
Even fastballs from MLB pitchers have movement. Unless it's Francisco Rodriguez.

The difference between a MLB pitcher and 99% of HS pitchers that can throw 90+
