Can't tell you the number of GP dentists who send kids for referral but couldn't get x rays. When we take x rays we find more than the referring dentist saw because most cavities in kids start inbetween the teeth. So it's not an either or thing. Pediatric dentists are just more experienced getting x rays on kids. If your dentist got good X-rays and the discrepancy was that large I would consider getting a second opinion
