Staley didn't come back for his senior season.

Yes he had good reasons--he knew he probably couldn't play football anymore. He knew that there was a very small chance of his knee holding out. So he ran for the dough. Dishonest if he didn't disclose, but physicals are the job of the team right?

And he was not loving academics anyway. So he jumped.

Clearly the best choice for him and his family financially. But it broke BYU fan's heart. They turned on him. Ugly--yes. Justified--no. But it was a cycle of ugliness that he starte (or I should more properly say, his knee and academic bent started). I'm sure he would have come back if he was healthy and if he had an easier time in school.

I love Staley and always will. We are what we are and Luke was one heck of a player for as long as he could be. That is good enough for me. Thanks Luke for the memories.
