Those were rough years for BYU sports and Utah was riding a high. I wasn't at the U because I was a fan, but because it worked well for a number of personal reasons. 

I wore my BYU gear several days a week... mostly because I was a poor student and 80% of my clothing came from the BYU athletic department.  In class it wasn't a big deal because about 1/3 of the students in the program were BYU undergrad alums. Outside of class, the only comments I got were questions about whether I took a lot of flack for wearing my Y gear.
