Wow, I'm sorry I've offended so many people here by this post. All I wanted...
...to do was sort of virtually sigh about the amount of money being dumped into NIL. A little background. My job is working with lots of people in science and R&D back on the east coast. They are brilliant PhD / MDs focused on creating solutions to some of the world's great problems. It's cool stuff. (And yes...it's a for-profit business...and I'm make for-profit money...so light me up about that). A lot of these folks I work with also are big sports fans. It's been tough for them to see NIL play out the way that it has (not just for BYU...but their own schools). And as non-members / non-Utahns, they are simply reading about all these wealthy Mormon donors giving loads of money to support athletics and they (perhaps justifiably so) question why "church-going, Jesus-loving Mormons" are choosing to do this with their piles of cash. Not in a finger-pointing way so much as way that is more curious. I defend it...but it's honestly hard not to see their point to some extent. It's one thing for us to be gathering $5M for a guy...and another to say that we're stockpiling who knows how much north of $100M+ in order to create an amazing team. My question to you is...at what quantity of money would you also begin to question it?

I love BYU football and basketball. I'm certainly not going to protest and cancel all my tickets, but my question is at what amount does it become too much? At what point would some of you agree and say maybe we really should question how much is going into our NIL stockpiles?

Now...go ahead and light me up after me posting a whimsical sigh.

And Merry Christmas!
