Broken health system example 1,231,574:
Got a colonoscopy because I'm 45. Required biopsy.
Because I'm either broke, or a slow bill-payer, my insurance was terminated after the colonoscopy, but termination was backdated to prior to colonoscopy. I called the hospital to let them know that I was now self-pay (insurance wouldn't let me reinstate).
They adjusted the bill, which I just got in the mail.
Charge: $8,905
Uninsured discount: 7,658
Amount due: 1,246.70
My monthly insurance premium that I didn't pay: 1,800 per month for 3 months.
Worked out ok for me this time.
