It's true: exercise moves the needle more than diet when we're talking about living longer, but the OP asked about
weight, specifically.

When it comes to controlling your weight, caloric balance is the thing that matters, and diet moves the needle more in that department than exercise.

We all need plenty of exercise to live better and to live longer, but if you want to lose weight, you're going to have to restrict the amount of calories you eat.
