2. “Rotten” sounds pretty close to your description,

That sounds pretty rotten to me…

Also, I don’t totally disagree with you about the cutthroat aspect. I think you are more correct on that point, actually.

I also think some of that is a function of being insecure undergraduate students. I think grad students are more collaborative by nature, so that could explain some of the difference.

After thinking it over, I think I might agree with you a little more than I initially thought.
