Jake just decided to throw it directly to the defender for some reason.
As you said - should've been a TD or an incompletion. Never should've been an interception.
At the same time - we've seen that play before with a pass that is too flat when it needs to be lofted over the defender. If Jake can't make the throw, don't call the play.
So sure - I can put some blame on the coaches for calling a play that the players haven't mastered. At the same time - that play is the perfect example of the comment "we played and executed well enough..." not being true. Had that play been executed "well enough" - it wouldn't have been an interception.
