Oh please, like this is the first chance they had to learn these lessons? Like Oklahoma State and Utah meant nothing?
You talk about real life? Okay, here’s a real life example. You catch your 10 year old playing with fire in the back yard in a way that is unsafe. Luckily he doesn’t get hurt, but you tell him lovingly never to do it again. He says he won’t. Three weeks later he comes in with a slight burn on his hand, nothing major, but it’s clear he has been doing it again. You explain to him again why he shouldn’t be doing it. One week later he does it again but this time some bushes next to your house catch on fire, then the overhang, then the house itself, and then the whole house burns down. Did it honestly have to come to that?

The first two times were the Oklahoma State and Utah games. The third was Kansas. They had the chance to learn their lesson and take it seriously without losing.
