but way too touristy (the whole place feels like a giant theme park, like an outdoor Disneyland, even way up in the mountains), way too expensive, the food is mediocre, and the people are cold and unfriendly. It's too bad, the first time I went, back in the '80s, it didn't seem that way, and I really liked it. But my subsequent visits have been different.
An exception might be if you don't live in or near mountains and haven't had much access to Alpine scenery, then the views and landscapes will be more striking to you. But even then, I would recommend Austria or northern Italy or the Pyrenees or the Picos de Europa in Spain instead, for spectacular European mountain scenery.
