Look, Whittingham is an outstanding defensive coach, and he’s recruited outstanding players. Analysts, stats, and opposing teams’ production all proclaim Utes’ D to be effective, so why shouldn’t they simply be very good? There doesn’t have to be a gimmick or some kind of chicanery to explain it.

Also, as Whitt said, if you’re careless enough to get your signs stolen in game, then so be it. I don’t know if the Utes did or didn’t go beyond in-game efforts. I tend to doubt the big conspiracies as those tend to come out, and the downside risk is unnecessary for Utah. I don’t see why they’d have needed to do this, especially if teams make it easy to steal their signs legally.
