I’ve heard exactly what you’re talking about in terms of Stillwater fishing and barometric pressure, but haven’t seen it
enough with trout to buy in. I’ve had killer days catching trout o lakes when it was raining.

I’m thinking of one in particular when rain was breaking up the surface enough that it seemed like a dry wouldn’t work well. I swam an unweighted black woolly bugger just a few inches under the surface and KILLLED it that day. Trout blowing it up. Not sure if the barometer was still falling or not. More experimentation needed. You’ll need to return and report.

Then the question of moon phase!

As far as BWOs go, I’ve become totally converted to the idea that bad weather makes it better.
I don’t think it’s about “drying” their wings since they come out dry out of a gas-lined cuticle as they hatch. But the wings do need to essentially “inflate” and become turgid so they can fly. Maybe precipitation or even lack of sunlight slows that down. Snowy days have been just as good as rainy.

Go fish though. It could be awesome. The good days fishing more than offset the bad ones.

Try a Chubby Chernobyl on the surface. Try it static. Try twitching it and then stripping it. If they won’t come up then try stripping something buggerish. I like to go with a light color and dark color in tandem to see if they have a preference.
