If you haven't budgeted as a couple, I'd first try to pull as much together to account for your past 12 months of spending, then build a budget off of that. Too many times people use ridiculously low numbers for their budget that are unattainable.

Attend the self reliance class on finance. It should be a requirement for every couple - young or old. Highly recommend
