A couple of years ago a pediatric dentist told us that our 8 year old needed 7 fillings, and a few crowns. I asked for
Them to show me the cavities on the x -rays and the dentist got very snippy, wouldn't show them to me, and insisted that I just needed to set up an appointment asap. I asked for a copy of the x-rays to seek a second opinion and they gave them to me, but were pretty hostile about it.

The next dentist said that the x-ray quality from the first place was so poor that he couldn't use them. He took new ones and recommended three fillings, and gum surgical procedure, but recommended we find a different office to do the surgical procedure since they weren't set up for that. That was fine, since we had to inch around some passed out homeless people on the stairway to his office, above a 7-11, so I wasn't loving that place anyway.

The next dentist also said only three, and recommended seeing an orthodontist about a possible gum surgery. He wanted to do the fillings, but insisted that he would need to put her under general anesthesia, (no parents allowed in the room) for the procedure. He also put off a creep vibe, and my daughter begged to not have to go back to him.

We finally found a family practice that has an orthodontist next door who said we should wait until she's at least 12 before enough of her teeth are in to make a decision about the gum surgery. We had three fillings done, and two years later she's fine with no problems. Finding a good dentist can be a headache, but they are out there.
