have been a run. Yea, I know Baylor was stuffing the run…but zone read, or speed option…something. You have to keep the clock running in that situation.

If you don’t get the first you burn 40 seconds off the clock and pin them deep with a punt.

Most play calling criticism is stupid anyway. We aren’t really criticizing the play call…you criticize the result.

The fake punt is a perfect example. Because it worked we all think it was an amazing call. Had it not worked we would all have been pissed for giving Baylor the ball deep in our own territory.

Also go back to the halfback pass to Steve Young in the Holiday Bowl to beat Missouri. Steve said he couldn’t believe the call when it came in because they had never run it.

But it worked so it looks like a genius call. Had it not worked we would all have been incredibly pissed for calling something so risky at a critical time.

Certainly not always the case…but more often than not the play calls are what they are. The execution is what determines how we judge whether the call was good or bad.
