I've been surprised at the number of employees we've had just showing up to meetings and looking busy but nothing else.
We have had several who started with us and didn't leave their previous job... We've done employment verification with their former companies.

We have all kinds of metrics for performance and productivity, and we generally have 20% of the people doing 80% of the work. It was closer to 60/40 prior to COVID.

I go I to the office just because I know that I am more productive there (I have ADHD... man it's hard to focus at home if I don't have an urgent task sitting in front of me).

Many of our newer/younger employees go into the office because they are starving for help/mentorship. We have ways of doing it remotely, but it isn't the same if you're trying to start your career.

I do have mixed feelings and like flexible work schedules, but Im also watching my company and many others I'm connected to plateau in this economy because we've lost our drive. It's also tough because we have some international teams who work harder and more in sync in the office. Most hiring is moving in that direction.

The next few years will be interesting... I believe we are headed to a market correction and it's going to be harder and harder to find jobs, and employers are likely to start monitoring working hours in addition to productivity metrics or forcing back to the office, at least in the tech space. It's been an employee's market for a long time, but that's changing. The good news is that there will be stability for dedicated, hard workers who consistently demonstrate that they can contribute wherever they are.
