One thing I may do differently (and we may do with younger kids) is either getting simpler devices (not a smart phone, just a regular cell phone), or finding better ways to lock down existing smart phones. We use google family link, pay for an annual subscription for some netgear parental controls, and also use a mobile app called Qustodio. And even with all three, there are stupid easy ways around the blocks.
None of my kids have done any kind of social media though, so at least that is nice.
