We used to have a shared computer in the open where kids got a half hour each on weekdays to do whatever and an hour on weekends. It worked pretty well, but the schools gave all the kids chrome books entering sixth grade, and one of the kids couldn't stop having problems.

I feel society as a whole has not benefitted from smart phones, social networks, or possibly even the internet. The net costs might be greater than the benefits.
