3rd and 17. Arod calls a pass behind the line
Of scrimmage( not the 1st down line)…which was incomplete
That call for that situation is insanity isn’t it.

Not necessarily. I've been plenty critical of the play calling

No, very common to call a screen pass on 3rd and forever. We have picked up

3rd and long the defense often blitzes anticipating a long pass play.

Nope.

Didn't we waste a timeout before that play too?

When John Beck beat TCU at TCU, Curtis Brown made a living off of those plays.

Every coach calls plays like that.

I'm typically not a fan of plays like that, but I think it would have worked had the pass been completed...

It wasn’t a screen - it’s like the outlet route. He struggles with throwing

There are more than just one route being run on that play...

No. The *literal* definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over

Psychiatrist: that is not the definition of insanity. 🙂

That's not even the craziest part of that call.

And wasn't that right after a time out?

I think the timeout was one play earlier. Could be misremembering.

What type of play do you like to beat a potential blitz

The Dr. Bob Anae third and long draw was absolute insanity and it worked far more often that I would have guessed.

it worked against us when opposing teams ran it on our D more than it...

It is the conservative play. It is better to pick up 7 -10 yards and then punt

Nice explanation for us that aren’t great X and 0 fans. Makes total sense.

Screen pass is not uncommon at all on 3rd and very long. This is not an evidence of ARod being stupid.

What’s insane is asking a turnover prone QB to force a throw 20 yards downfield

That play had a lot of problems…

MANY coaches call screen plays on 3rd and long.

I’ve seen that type of play work many many many times
