Sounds like a rational business decision, as long as the car survives long
enough for the up front cost to pay off.

But it's not reasonable to expect the insurance company to make you whole on the expected fuel savings over whatever the useful life remaining of an already heavily depreciated asset was.

What it is is a bummer.
