Giving Retzlaff a virtual pass when there is a very capable QB right behind him on the sideline is nuts. Also, I liked Austin Collie's post-game comments that A-Rod needs to build his offensive game plan to get the ball to his playmakers instead of blindly going with a losing formula of running to set up the pass. A lot needs to change to get this offense humming - and it begins with the OC. BYU has a ton of weapons that were mostly unused last night - and Retzlaff missed a lot of open receivers. He looked shaken and panicked.
I do think that it was good to get Retzlaff running the ball later in the game to get him into a flow and mix things up. I hope we will see more of that earlier in games to help open up the RPO. But man, Retzlaff's turnovers would have been game-ending in most any other contest. The defense saved his bacon last night. But for the defense, BYU loses the game by a couple of TDs and we see Bohannan next week.
